Clay is essential to indian culture, past and present. It is accessible everywhere, it takes from it very little effort, and its fragile assures its constant renewal. It has been the perfect vehicle for indian creativetiy throughout the ages. The shapes and style of items made of clay, both fired & unfired , are inumerable. They comprise everything from the miniscule to gigantic, from simple to highly ornate, from realistic to abstract from purely practicle to utterly fantastic.

There are more working potters in india than in any other country of the world - more than350 thousand . Every community , however small usually incorporates at least one working potter. While town & cities have large potting population. As these craftmen cater to extraordinary diversity of sub cultures tradition and environment , there products are usually varied. They make vessels for every conceivable household use from simplest clay lamps , cooking pots and food containers to storage bins eight feet high . They sculpt images to be used in religious ceremonies ranging from tiny fig made from pinches of clay to magnificent horses & elephants over eighteen feet tall, The largest terracota ever created in the history of humanity

Even to this day the flair for terracota products are high . I was attracted because of its color & there bio degradable nature . In this present world the use of plastic has polluted the environment ,the need for a bio degradable material like terracota is high. So i have choosen the terracota as my topic for the project
